Every chemistry teacher has said that EPS foam products would be around longer than the Statue of Liberty... Not any longer.
Blue Earth has the Solution, the StyroSolvesm process!
The unique StyroSolvesm process mixes EPS and other foam products in the grinder/reducer with StyroSolve™ solvent. This mixture becomes a gel we call Polygel™ that reduces the volume of the EPS by as much as 98%. Reducing the EPS to such a tiny amount reduces the number of trucks needed to haul away the recycled EPS, thus reducing the carbon footprint of transporting the EPS by 8 times.
The Polygel™ is put into an extruder where two things happen:
- The StyroSolvesm solvent is evaporated off and captured to be reused
- The clean polystyrene is pelletized and sold to a plastics manufacturer as raw material
Frequently Asked Questions about StyroSolvesm
- 1. Is StyroSolvesm safe for the environment?
- Yes, it is a non-toxic and biodegradable solution.
- 2. What is produced from the StyroSolvesm process?
- Polystyrene pellets, which are packaged and sold to manufacture other items that you use every day. Examples: Cell phone casing, computer casings, and any other objects where a fairly rigid, economical plastic is desired.
- 3. What is Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)?
- You come in contact with Expanded Polystyrene everyday, which is light plastic material used to make disposable items, insulation, and packing materials. Though EPS Foam is useful in our every day lives, it will never biodegrade.
- 4. Do any other companies recycle EPS Foam?
- We are a company who TRULY recycles EPS Foam. Until now, common practice was to melt the EPS Foam to reduce the volume. This produces harmful vapors and the melted block still ends up in the landfill.
- 5. How do you clean the EPS Foam?
- Our patented process incorporates micron filters to greatly decrease any contaminates, producing manufacturing grade Polystyrene.
- 6. Is it true that the number of trucks used to ship the EPS Foam is not cost efficient and is harmful to the environment?
- No. By outfitting our trucks with tanks containing StyroSolve™, we are able to start the recycling and reduction process at the collection site, giving us the ability to transport in excess of 20,000 lbs of EPS each trip. This greatly reduces the carbon footprint of our transportation.
